It is my honor this quarter to introduce Gail Richmond as the winner of the Extra Mile Award.  You may already know that Gail is the President of the Board of Trustees, and a Prayer Chaplain.  But did you know that prior to becoming the President she served as Secretary to the Board?

Besides being a Chaplain, with many calls per month, and Sunday duties as a Chaplain, she also has taken on the role of Chaplain Trainer.  Gail also worked on the sanctuary flowers for a few years, and does announcements and other work during the Sunday services. 

I met Gail when I first agreed to help on a rummage sale fundraiser, which she ably chaired.  She has been a greeter, and is a “constant waterer” in the garden, and fills in where necessary.  Whew!!  That wears me out just thinking about all that Gail does for our church! Thankfully, she doesn’t have to do all of this each week.

Gail started out at Unity Christ Church on Skinker, moved to First Unity Church on Bates, then finally, to Unity Church of Peace, which was closer to where she lived.

I have served with Gail on the Board for this past year, and have watched her grow personally and in the job.  She is open to suggestions and takes a spiritual, as well as a practical, approach to the work when running the Board meetings.

Gail’s favorite things are movies, crafts, games, and gardening.  She wants our congregation to know that she is very excited about becoming a Licensed Unity Teacher because her degree is in teaching, and this is a new way to serve our community.  Gail cares a great deal about our church and has truly gone the “Extra Mile”.
