Reverend Sallie Fox Dear Unity Friends, How would you define true “prosperity”? So often when we hear the word, prosperity, we tend to immediately think of money and items of material wealth. However, Jesus taught the principle of sufficiency – that there is great value in building a consciousness of abundance, as opposed to collecting, hoarding, and depending upon the false security of material wealth. This consciousness of abundance, which is true prosperity, is the realization that God is our constant source of supply, and that source is within each of us. Through our faith, we come to know that there will always be a flow of substance through us – as divine ideas, creative expression of words and experience, as well as the material things that we need. When we affirm our true prosperity, we will build our lives on a firm foundation instead of on “shifting sands”. We are God’s instruments, through which the abundance of the universe flows out. We believe that this is what Jesus meant when he said, “Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matt.6:33) In Discover the Power within You, Unity author, Rev. Eric Butterworth wrote, “Jesus is telling us to put first emphasis upon building a mental bank account of faith, building an awareness of the opulent substance of Spirit. This consciousness will always attract to us experiences that reflect the mental pattern, ‘as within, so without’. At Unity Church of Peace, we have recently formed a new group called, The Prosperity Thinkers, whose special job is to affirm true prosperity and to hold the “high watch” for our entire church community. If you haven’t yet attended a meeting of this group, I hope you will consider doing so soon. Hopefully, by now you have received a special affirmation card, called, Prosperity on the 8s. The story of how this catchy phrase came about it a good one! At our second meeting of the Prosperity Thinkers, we were discussing the efficacy of the affirmation that we had been using during the previous month, when it was suggested that we change the time from 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. At that point, Rev. Michael Maday said, “Oh, prosperity on the 8s, just like the weather!” We all knew at that moment that the phrase would definitely stick! If you do not yet have one of these cards with the special prosperity affirmations, please be sure to pick one up at church. In fact, pick up a few of them and put them in your cars and on your bathroom mirrors so that you will always remember to say the affirmation on the 8s – at 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. – each day! As we continue to affirm the prosperity of God’s abundant kingdom for ourselves and our church, we know that we will see God’s good manifest. “I am now receiving all of the unlimited good that God has for me.” “Unity Church of Peace is now receiving all of the unlimited good that God has for us.” I hope you will join us throughout this month of May for the continuation of our special lesson series, titled, “The Keys to the Kingdom”, based on the program of prosperity consciousness building by New Thought minister, Rev. David Owen Ritz. And don’t forget that the Keys to the Kingdom class begins on Sat. May 3rd, from 10 -12 a.m. God is blessing you now and always! Love and Blessings, Reverend Sallie Fox
